Nubia Luxury Camp – Erg Chigaga, Morocco

N 29º51′46″ W 6º14′21″

Nubia Luxury Camp sits among the towering dunes of Erg Chigaga (also spelled Chegaga) in Morocco’s remote Sahara. With just six tent suites, each with a private en-suite bathroom, we offer an intimate desert experience far from the crowds of Merzouga. Expect hosted dining under the stars, guided camel treks, and private 4×4 transfers from Marrakech, Ouarzazate or Zagora.

Why Nubia Camp

Unlike larger desert camps, Nubia offers no more than six tents at any time. This means personal attention from our Berber team, flexibility with meal times and activities, and space to enjoy the Sahara without other tour groups.  Our camp is run by Mohamed Elhaoissi and his team, who were born in the region and have guided travellers through Erg Chigaga for over 15 years. When you stay with us, you’re not just booking accommodation — you’re joining a small household in the desert.

Want the camp to yourself? Our private camp option gives your group exclusive use of Nubia, with your own chef and guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nubia Camp the same as Erg Chigaga Luxury Desert Camp?

Nubia Luxury Camp is our name for the camp we operate at Erg Chigaga. You may see other camps in the area with similar names — Erg Chigaga has several operators. To book with us, use this website or contact Moroccan Journeys directly.

How many tents does Nubia Camp have?

Six. Each tent suite has a king-size bed (or twin beds on request), a private en-suite bathroom with hot shower, comfortable seating, and solar-powered lighting. The small number of tents means a quieter, more personal experience.

What makes Nubia different from other Erg Chigaga camps?

Nubia is a small camp with just six tents, run by a Berber family team with over 15 years’ experience in Erg Chigaga. We focus on personal service rather than volume — you won’t share the dunes with coach tours. Our camp can also be booked privately for couples, families or small groups who want the site to themselves.

What’s included in a standard stay?

Your stay at Nubia includes a private tent suite with en-suite bathroom and hot water, daily breakfast, and dinner served under the stars or in our dining tent. You’ll have access to shared lounging areas, campfire seating, and our Berber team throughout your stay. Camel treks and other activities can be arranged on arrival.

When is the best time to visit Erg Chigaga?

October to April offers the most comfortable conditions with cooler nights and clear skies. Spring and autumn are usually calm; summer stays are possible with early and late activity timings.

Is there phone signal or Wi-Fi at the camp?

Mobile signal is limited at Erg Chigaga. Wi-Fi is available near the main tent and works for messaging and light browsing. For reliable connectivity, a Moroccan SIM card or your driver’s mobile hotspot is a useful backup. Most guests enjoy the chance to disconnect.
